A Couple of Family Birthdays

Hello there friends and followers and welcome to my two new followers......Hazelw and Karen. Thank you both for joining me. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find blogs for either of you. Please let me know if you have one and I'll be more than happy to update this post with a link.

I'm here today to share with you a couple of cards that I've made.  The first one was made for my wonderful Husband who turned 60 this week. He doesn't like a lot of fuss so we celebrated the day quietly in the Lake District. Ordinarily, I would surprise him with a card but when I'd finished this one, he loved it so much that he asked if he could have it for his birthday as it reminds him of the Yorkshire Dales, so here it is:

All stamps used on this card are by Inkylicious and I've created the background using their Ink Dusters and stencils.

The second card is one that I've made for my Son-in-law's birthday:

He prefers cards that are clean and simple so I haven't done too much with this one  The image was stamped in black onto Kraft card and I've then gently gone over it using a sponge dauber just to add a little colour.  I finished the card by adding gold glitter over the Leopard, which unfortunately, doesn't show at all on the photograph but it does catch the light beautifully. This Leopard Prowl stamp is a new one from Inkylicious and I love it.  I can't wait to have a play around with my inks with this one as it's such a fabulous stamp and I have lots of ideas that I'd like to try.

Whatever you're doing this weekend, I hope the sun shines for you and that you can be with the people you love.  Sandra x

I'm entering the first card into the following challenges:

  25. Hi Sandra, I am so inspired by your work. I am just starting out with the Ink Dusters and stencils, I'm not very good at the moment, eg the sun does not rise in front of a mountain!?! what a nincompoop! but I will keep admiring your work to see how it should be done. Fabulous cards, thank you for sharing them. Karen x

    1. Hi Karen, thank you so much for leaving such a very kind and generous comment. We are always our own worst critics, so don't be too hard on yourself. The thing that I love about card making is that you have artistic licence to do whatever you want to do and I bet your sun looks fabulous. Believe it or not, the first card on this post was destined for the bin as I had brought the mountains down too low but I salvaged it by using a sheet of A4 copy paper, a sponge dauber and some black ink. I started by adding a shadow below the tree line and the bringing the paper down a bit and doing the same again. To my amazement, it ended up looking like fields, so problem solved, and nobody would ever have know if I hadn't just told you! :) My advice to you would be to do what enjoy doing and what makes you happy, because at the end of the day, it's a time for creativity and relaxation. If you make a mistake, don't throw it away, put it away and come back to it on another day and I promise that you'll see it with different eyes. I'm honoured to have inspired you and if there's anything I can ever help with, then please just ask. I would love to see your cards Karen but can't find your blog. Sandra X
